Things to do - general

River Gacka

In the Gacka valley, a karstic field, flows a river of the same name – one of the largest sinking rivers in the world – leaving everybody breathless with its dark blue-green colour. Gacka’s stream is under strict protection, so for example, boat traffic is forbidden. However, this magnificent river is most famous for trout fishing, especially using a technique called „mušičarenje“ or „fly-fishing“. Brown trout is a special treat for any fishing enthusiast. Consequently, you can find top quality grilled trout in many surrounding restaurants. If you want something more intimate, rent a vacation house and you can go fishing and catch it yourself, or even ask your host to do it for you.

Sports & nature

"Mušičarenje" became a prestigious sport and any better fisherman dreams of fishing on this extraordinary river once. Luckily, fishing rules are very strict so you can be sure that a trout or two will be waiting for you!

Culture and history info

Like every river in history, Gacka too had many mills. Unfortunately, it's a rarity to see one standing today, let alone working. However, Gacka springhead water mills in Sinac are still functioning. This mill constructions are of special historical and cultural value – just listening to them clacking will take you centuries back. You can even buy flour grinded with massive boulders – a process you can observe at the sight. Take our word for it – bread made with that flour tastes like no other!
